Day 343: when beautiful Helene met Eve and her pudding

We’ve touched on this before, and we’ll touch on it again: I’m not really all that fond of the combination of fruit and chocolate. I’d consider dried fruit and chocolate to be an acceptable combination, in fact I rather like it, but the wetter preserved fruits/fresh fruit and chocolate combo however is not for me. That was then, back when I’d laugh in someone’s face if they suggested I tried an anchovy: now, we get through multiple jars each week. And it’s that constant evolution of my tastes throughout the cookalong that encouraged me to give this one a go. (I had no doubts or concerns whatsoever about whether hubby and the cherubs would like it; I knew they’d devour bowlfuls by the minute).

Day 343 is Nigella’s Chocolate Pear Pudding. (Title context: Nigella describes this, and accurately so, in the recipe intro as “a cross between Pears Belle Helene and Eve's Pudding”.)

Nigella’s Chocolate Pear Pudding

#PuddingForLunch on Sundays in our house is officially a thing now: we have breakfast (normally a breads/cold meats and cheeses/salads/parówki kind of affair, eat a freshly cooked pudding/dessert/cake for lunch and then have our savoury meal for dinner/supper/tea later in the day. This is mostly so I have half-decent light for a photo, but it also works out well because I am always about an hour late with dinner - which means the kids don’t have to miss out on pudding later in the day because of the laborious Sunday night bath and bedtime routine, and I get to rest easy knowing I’ve not lied and told them there’s no dessert knowing full well that as soon as their lights are out I’ll be pouring double cream over a bowl of something heavenly and settling down on the sofa to an episode of Call The Midwife.

Chocolate in this volume requires lots of double cream for me. Absolutely divine - and a knockout chocolate sauce to boot.

The recipe for this can be found in Nigella Express and on nigella.com (link below).
