Day 363: the elvis

There was no way I could get to the end and not include this one! Day 363, and a hint of the final feast that’s still to come, is Nigella’s (slightly attenuated) version of the Elvis - peanut butter, banana and toast meets hot, foaming pool of butter.

Nigella's Elvis Presley's Fried Peanut-Butter and Banana Sandwich

We recently watched the spectacular, yet rather harrowing, Elvis movie, which prompted me to me to take my copy of The Life and Cuisine of Elvis Presley, by David Adler, to bed with me (to read) to fully immerse myself in the biopic experience. After all, what better way to connect with a person in history than via the food that brought them comfort. In this book, David writes “Once, for seven weeks, Elvis lived only on peanut butter and banana sandwiches”. The book also instructs to eat the creation with a knife and fork, which for the two ‘heaping’ tablespoons of peanut butter listed in the ingredients of the original, I should think necessary.

And, yes, I’m dragging out the posting of the last couple of days of the cookalong. What of it?!

Recipe for this is in Bites and on nigella.com (link below).
