Day 254: gondolas and jewels

A gorgeous display of colour and beauty - green gondolas, ruby jewels, puce wisps, snowy slabs, charcoal speckling - gleaming deliciously in the evening the sun: Day 254 is Nigella’s Feta and Avocado Salad with Red Onions, Pomegranate and Nigella Seeds.

With better planning, I would have timed the debut making of this to fall when the local market was in town - a lovely Greek family-run stall sells the creamiest chunks of snow-white fresh feta. However, I can assure you this will not be the last time I make this!

Enjoyed as part of a vibrant Sunday family feast with Sabrina Ghayour’s Blackened Spatchcock Chicken (from her book Feast) and Cacik (Yogurt with Cucumber & Dill; from the beauty that is Persiania). Rather chuffed with myself for spatchcocking the chicken - I am terribly squeamish when it comes to cracking or crunching bones. In place of the garlic clove in the Cacik, I used a handful of finely chopped wild garlic from the garden. All totally divine, and served with warmed flatbreads.
