Day 311: a familiar favourite

There was a time this featured at our table regularly, but then I embarked on this cookalong and suddenly recurring favourites were bumped off by other deliciousnesses.

I’ve never actually been able to get a photo of it that I’m proud of - perhaps because it mainly features at our table during the cosy months of autumn and winter when our house is like a dark cave with no natural light after the hours of 2pm - but I can no longer contain my love for it and must give it it’s rightful and long overdue time in the limelight: Day 311 is Nigella’s Pork Steaks with Port and Figs. I love it so much.

The recipe for this can be found in At My Table.

This recipe has also inspired the creation of what has become a favourite stew in our house - and one that I am very proud of - involving pork shoulder, allspice, dried figs, whole shallots caramelised in dripping, bay leaves and a low ‘n’ slow cook til tender bask in the oven for a few hours (see below for a pic I took last year).
