Day 252: nigellan delights

Accompanying our 26-pound bronzed beauty this Easter was an array of Nigellan delights: we had the absolute ecstasy of a Bread-Sauce-Flavoured Potato Gratin; the sweet kisses of Petits Pois à la Française; and the sprightly tang of a Green Bean and Lemon Casserole.

While I hate to choose favourites, the gratin did induce groans of pure pleasure from every guest we had (and me hovering over it, as everyone tucked in, crossing my fingers and hoping for leftovers to devour alone the following day).

The recipe for Nigella’s Bread-Sauce-Flavoured Potato Gratin can be found on p228 of Feast; the Petits Pois à la Française can be found in the same book, on p148; and the Green Bean and Lemon Casserole is also on Feast, on p33, and on nigella.com (link below).

We are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy these pleasures, but there are thousands - millions! - who are not. I take nothing for granted and receive everything with deep gratitude, and I make sure to raise my children the same. While I know it’s not much - and I know we could have forgone the lavish feast for something much simpler, I just wanted to make our first Easter together as a family special - I made a £50 donation to FareShareUK (the charity I’m raising money/awareness for during this cookalong). If you’d like to do the same, you can do so/find out more by clicking the button below.
