Day 301: marmalade sandwiches
Just when I thought I’d cooked my way through all the Nigella bread puddings, I stumble upon this one: Day 301 is Nigella’s Orange Scented Brioche Pudding. As many of you probably know by now, bread puddings are my favourite puddings. And this delicate beauty is no exception: celestially light, gorgeously perfumed and perfectly balanced with sweet butteriness and bitter marmalade, conveyed in a moist, gently quivering baked custard flecked with boozy golden sultanas. What makes it even better? It starts out life - in the kitchen - as a pile of brioche marmalade sandwiches, before they’re then triangled, drenched in a yolky custard and baked. What are you waiting for?
Nigella’s Orange Scented Brioche Pudding
It’s cold custard, double cream or ice cream for me with a bread pud. Here (pic 2), it’s with a scoop of soft vanilla - though do note, it needs nothing.
Cutting slices of leftovers, like cake, makes for lovely fridge-side snacking. No heating required. Kind of like a sweet, eggy brioche slice flecked with juicy sultanas and marbled with perfumed marmalade. Though of course it does reheat lovely, with a just a brief half a minute or so in the microwave.
